PKA : CONSERVATION : Clones Courthouse

Clones Courthouse

Monaghan County Council commissioned PKA for the conservation - and adaptation to cultural and community use - of the 19th century courthouse on McCurtain Street, Clones.

After many years of decline and neglect, the building was in need of considerable repair, and creative adaptation to secure its future going forward.

PKA’s conversion enables the building to function primarily as a multi-purpose community resource, and its monthly court sittings are accommodated by means of a demountable Judge’s bench and retractable furniture.

Completion of the project enables the courthouse to be used as a venue for cultural and social events, such as concerts, exhibitions, receptions, meetings and cinema, while retaining the character of the historic structure.

The conservation and renovation was completed in 2008, and PKA’s project has been enthusiastically lauded by the Courts Service, Monaghan County Council and the local community.
