PKA : DOMESTIC : Oakley Road. Ranelagh
Oakley Road. Ranelagh
This conservation and renovation project involved total redevelopment of an Edwardian house and its extensive site in Ranelagh, Dublin 6. In addition to remodelling the original - a protected structure - it included the design of an extension and a studio in the garden.
The house had been sub-divided by previous owners with the loss of many original features. PKA's challenge was to strike a balance between restoration to its original condition, and creating a home for the family’s contemporary lifestyle.
This involved reconfiguration of the existing rooms to provide en-suite bathrooms and such-like, while restoring the fine proportioned reception rooms, connecting these to modern set-piece spaces in the extension overlooking the property’s garden.
Respecting the heritage and character of the house, the project employs state-of-the-art energy saving measures, including upgraded insulation, integrated heating systems, solar panels and gas condensing boilers; combining the best of 19th and 21st century lifestyles and technologies.
