Following a competitive interview, PKA were appointed to design this 28 unit housing development in Loughrea, County Galway.
Located on a greenfield site on the outskirts of the town, the site slopes steeply from the northern boundary to the public road at its southern edge.
PKA’s design consists of a pair of courtyard spaces surrounded by two-storey terraces of housing aspiring to establish an attractive, secure and well landscaped residential enclave, with an identifiable sense of place.
The wide frontage house types - with special corner units - ensure that all houses have well-lit sunny living rooms, and views of the courtyard, irrespective of orientation or location in the scheme.
The project was completed - on time and within budget - in 2007. It was selected for exhibition at the 2009 National Housing Conference and published in the RIAI / DOEHLG New Housing 2.
