This private commission involved extensive remodelling and conservation of a 19th century house in Dartry, Dublin 6. The brief was to redesign the house and garden entirely with the addition of a new indoor swimming pool and gymnasium facility.
The house had been altered over time and in its immediate state had been sub-divided into six apartments. The project aimed to return the house to its original use as a single dwelling.
The scheme involved removing the existing extension to the rear of the house which detracted considerably from the original qualities of the Victorian house.
The architectural character of the protected structure was revealed and conserved while new insertions were designed in a contemporary style - creating a harmonious interplay between the new and old.
