Sean Treacy House. Buckingham St. Dublin
Dublin City Council’s Sean Treacy House redevelopment is a major element of the North East Inner City Integrated Area Plan. The project involves demolition of the existing 1960’s flat blocks, and their replacement with a new mixed housing development comprising own-door houses, duplexes and apartments.
The scheme contains 53 units and a local community facility. It is organised around a semi-private raised courtyard, built above a single level of car parking. The courtyard is enclosed by three and four storey duplex blocks, with six storeys onto Buckingham Street.
PKA’s design prioritised urban design and residential amenity; the scheme completes the streetscape between Summerhill and Empress Place; the courtyard - and each unit’s private outdoor space - contributes to the creation of a high level of residential amenity for the residents.
Construction commenced in summer 2009 and completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2010.
