PKA : COMMERCIAL : Cathedral Court. Dublin
Cathedral Court. Dublin
In 2007 PKA moved to its own custom-designed offices in a new mixed-use development at Cathedral Court, New Street, Dublin 8. The offices are on the top floor, with an east facing terrace overlooking the city.
PKA’s plan is based on an open-plan studio arrangement, with teams organised around particular work assignments, allowing maximum flexibility and efficiency in the operations of the practice.
The plan takes advantage of the building’s dual aspect to create a bright daylit interior, with full-height glazing along its entire east-facing wall. Artificial lighting is provided by low energy individual task lighting. All fitted furniture was designed and custom-made for the project.
Sustainable energy use has been prioritised, both in construction of the original building and in the fit-out of PKA’s offices. A highly efficient district heating system serves the entire development, and the fabric is doubly insulated to increase energy efficiency.
