Phibsborough Mountjoy Local Area Plan
In 2006, Dublin City Council commissioned a multi-disciplinary team led by PKA to prepare a framework plan for the Phibsborough / Mountjoy area of the city, one of Dublin’s oldest and best known neighbourhoods.
Phibsborough is an important local centre, and a focal point for established residential communities. It is also home to institutions of national significance, such as Mountjoy Prison, the Mater Hospital, and Dalymount Park.
PKA’s approach maximised the opportunities which the 177ha site presented to establish Phibsborough as a truly sustainable neighbourhood, along the lines advocated by the Urban Task Force, the National Economic and Social Council, and Dublin City Council.
The plan was formally approved by the elected members of the City Council in October 2008, becoming the first LAP to be adopted in Dublin and won the prestigious Planning Achievement Award at the 2010 Irish Planning Institute’s national planning awards.
