Regional Training Centre. Castlebar
The Regional Training Centre is the central element of Mayo County Council’s major expansion of its headquarters buildings in Castlebar.
The site is located off The Mall, directly behind Aras an Chontae. The new development occupies one side of the council’s maintenance yard, complementing recently built office buildings to form a working courtyard environment.
PKA’s design accommodates the training centre on the ground floor, with the council offices overhead. The open plan offices are laid out around a double-height space featuring a high-spec metal and glass facade.
Natural ventilation technologies and designs for solar heating and heat exchange were developed in conjunction with the Mayo Energy Agency and Sustainable Energy Ireland.
The project was brought from masterplan to tender to a very tight programme - 6 months from inception to tender - and the final certificate was issued in June 2006.
