PKA : EDUCATION : National School. Robertstown
National School. Robertstown
Robertstown National School is a fine example of the rural national schools built throughout Ireland between the 1930s and the 1960s.
PKA’s major redevelopment of Scoil Robaird comprises two elements: renovation of the existing school building, plus a new addition housing classrooms, resource and library facilities, and a general purpose room.
The extension forms a courtyard behind the original building, and gives the school a new focus; and a secure external teaching and play area. All classes have access to this outdoor space, whether directly from the existing block, or from the corridor which runs the length of the new wing.
The completed project was delivered - on budget and on time - in December 2006. It was commended in the 2007 RIAI annual awards.
PKA recently completed a further extension to the school in January 2010.
