PKA: Quality

Since 2001, PKA has operated a quality management system, conforming to the requirements of ISO 9001. Use of the QA system enhances the service to the practice’s clients, and demonstrates a commitment to quality in all aspects of our work.

The practice’s quality manual sets out procedures and work instructions related to the quality system, management of the practice, and all project-based activities.

As required, a quality plan is prepared for each project; this details how the system is adapted to the specific commission and defines the procedures applied to achieve its quality objectives.

Formal design reviews are carried out at each project stage; these evaluate the design against the requirements of the brief, highlighting problems and identifying actions required to achieve agreed project goals.

As required, operation of the system is checked by audits, tailored to ensure that all procedures, and the QA system generally, are being followed by every member of the team.

Documentation control insures that practice drawings, reports, and specifications are all prepared, checked and issued in accordance with agreed QA procedures.

In PKA’s experience, implementation of the QA system results in controlled working methods, and ensures that all project related activities are geared to achieving the objectives of the commission.

PKA have now embarked on the process of obtaining third party ISO accreditation. It is planned that this will be obtained in 2010; in the meantime, current projects are being developed within PKA’s existing quality management framework.
